The European Investment Bank (EIB) this week issued a 11 year Swedish Krona 750 million ($111 million) 'Climate Awareness Bond', with an interest rate of 2.75%.
Scandinavian investors took 51% of the bond, other European investors 22% and Asian 27%. Fund managers took 54%, bank treasuries 41%. Bookrunners were Danske Bank and HSBC.
The EIB have issued €1.62 billion of Climate Awareness Bonds so far; funds raised go to renewable energy and energy efficiency loans, including things like district heating and co-generation. Global infrastructure company Isolux Corsan is apparently planning to issue a $100m+ bond to finance the second 50MW phase of its Loma Blanca wind farm, in Chubut, Argentina. Expect it out before year-end.
The scheme’s first tranche, Loma Blanca IV, was financed in October last year by a $103m bond; Fitch rated that bond BBB. Building is underway.
